Orchards in Bloom

The orchards are in bloom. This is all very new to me, so it is fun to see these 'dead limbs' come to life! The trees are doing all kinds of different things, depending upon the type of tree. The above photo shows everything starting out green.

Here you see an orchard where one row is just starting to turn green, and the other is filling in with loads of pink blossoms.

This orchard is full of white blooms. Yes, it is dropping down a fairly steep hill. The two rusty containers in front are smudge pots. All night long, when the buds are on the plants and the air is freezing, they release 'smoke' into the air to keep the freezing temperatures out of the orchards.

This is a new orchard, planted in one week. The back section of tags is a different color, so I am guessing those are completely different trees. A lot of men came in and dug the holes and planted. Then they dug trenches and laid irrigation lines down every row. Then they placed the labels, which are probably designed to protect the young tree bark.

That caught me by surprise!

That's a good sign.. More trees brings more pleasing environment :)
